Running through the Time

Description

That's my beloved dog - Odin. He was black, long-haired German Shepherd Dog.
Odin was very intelligent and surely he was able to love. Last Tuesday he died - mom said it was something like heart attack... Whole his life (over 1,5 year) he was very sickly - he had allergies, stomach problems, actually we bought him without any injections (I mean injections we have done after purchase), and the conditions of place where he was born were not good. I had him over one year, my elder brother gave me him, because he haven't as much free time, as it's necessary when you have a dog. I still can't believe Odin's no longer with me. In fact, we were saving he's life for 1,5 year...

Few days ago I drew something like this on paper and now I finished it with Photoshop.

In the picture he has got an hourglass on his neck as an obvious symbol of time, which can easily take our lives. Odin is running and sand is pouring out of the necklace, because now Odin is in some way part of that time, which is still passing by. Butterfly for me is a symbol of something little, which can change our whole lives at the moment we don't even expect that - something like "the butterfly effect". Blue is a colour of sadness and loneliness.

About drawing that... Firstly I wanted to draw it without any background, but at the end of working I noticed that it looks much better with that simple brown colour in the background. A butterfly was the worst of all - I can draw every one hair in the fur separately, but I won't like drawing butterflies, they're terrible for me.
I also have used that drawing technique for the first time - it supposed to be speedpainting, but I suck at this as much as I suck at drawing canines :)

I'm sorry to hear about your dog.  I lost one while he was still young too and I know how hard it can be.  This is a lovely memorial piece- it's beautiful.  I like the way you drew the sand flowing out and all the symbolism behind everything.  The butterfly was a nice addition and it adds a nice pop of color.  I like that Odin is smiling, because he is not suffering anymore.  Well done.
